It is both. A BDSM relationship is like a normal relationship. Both partners are important. A safeword is for both partners. Both can agree to stop and both partners need to set limits.

The purpose of this poll is to see what the community about who is really the one in control in a BDSM relationship. Yes the Dom/master is the one who seems to have the power, but he cannot do anything without the Sub/Slaves permission.

The Dom/me and sub form a complementary relationship of "different equals," so to speak. Submissive's are generally equal in power to their Masters and Mistresses despite their outwardly "lowly" status. In fact, many submissive's are actually doing what's referred to as "topping from the bottom."
Meanwhile, lifestyle slaves are definitely not the ones in control! Total Power Exchange requires just that- total. power. exchange. Why would someone voluntarily give up their claims to personal freedom as a lifestyle? I wish I had a better explanation, but I honestly feel as though I was born to serve. To me, surrendering to someone whom I love deeply enough to become enslaved to is a rather symbolic gesture of my dedication and trust. My service brings pleasure to Her and that alone is everything I need.
Yes, I do still have vanilla friends and a real-world job but there is never a time during the day in which I am not reminded of my enslavement.
In a nutshell, I am owned property with no rights. And I am totally fine with that too ;D
