Start with handcuffs.

Rope is versatile, but it can get dangerous very quickly. If you do not know what you are doing, you can cut off circulation to parts of you or your partner's body. Rope is quite a learning curve.

I'd suggest cuffs. A lot safer.

I voted rope. But I might just be biased because that's what I was started out with.

The Plushy Gear cuffs were our favorite beginner cuffs.

Well made and very comfortable.

Go with cuffs. Especially as a beginner. If you don't know what you're doing, there are so many ways to get hurt with rope.

For a starter, I'd say cuffs. Easy on, easy off.

With rope, you can do a lot of damage if you don't know what you're doing. It also requires a lot of patience from both people involved, which can sometimes kill the mood/excitement if you don't know you enjoy it or are fumbling with the folds. If anything does go wrong, it can take longer to get out of rope as compared to handcuffs.

If you want to do rope, I'd say you might try a class together, so you can both see what you're in for.

Definitely start with cuffs, they have a faster release and less things for a beginner to watch out for.
