The results are in: we’d rather give up sex than gain weight.
A survey asking Americans what they’d be willing to give up for six months if someone else would pay their bills for one month found that while 18 percent said they’d give up sex, only 9 percent would give up their svelte figures by gaining 15 pounds. So twice as many of us would go without sex than without gym time.
The survey was done by the Toluna polling firm for a bill paying company called BillFloat. MSNBC reports that the thing most Americans would give up in these trying financial times was – tada! – television. 26 percent, in fact. Not surprising really – in an election year? When we have to look at Newt Gingrich’s smiling puss every two seconds? What a sacrifice.
We were kinda shocked that 21 percent would give up their cell phones and digital devices and 14 percent would give up internet access but the most surprising was that 52 percent said they wouldn’t give up any of those things and would rather just pay the bills. Maybe it’s a sign the economy is doing better than we thought – or that 52 percent of people are decidedly unimaginative.
Of course we wonder if they asked those surveyed if they had sex, TV and cell phones to begin with. ‘Cause it’s easy to give up what’s already absent.
What would we give up if someone would pay our bills for a month? Working. Hands down.
