When you hear about a husband who wants his wife to put on a little weight you might think that’s a nice thing, since so many women are always worrying they’re not thin enough. Well, Dalwara Singh, in the U.K., wanted to make his wife gain weight in - seriously - the worst way.

Singh secretly fed steroids to his wife, Jaspreet Singh Gill, “so she would get fat and stay at home and cook for him,” the Daily Mirror reports. Singh ground up high-strength anabolic steroid tablets and put them into food and wine for his wife, and “… the powerful drugs caused the 37-year-old mum-of-two to break out in spots and grow hair on her face and back.”

Prosecutor Caroline Bray of the Leicester crown court said that Singh was accusing his wife of infidelity early in the marriage and that she was unable to go out and work and socialize. She also said that, though Jaspreet is taking female hormones, the steroids “can have permanent masculinating effects.” Singh was caught when his daughter heard the grinding of a mortar and pestle; his wife found the drugs secreted in a cupboard.

Singh got a 12-month suspended jail sentence and was ordered to go to a domestic abuse program.
