Sex Surrogacy and Me
Have you ever strived to be an accomplished lover, but can’t practice your skills because you currently don’t have a lover? Perhaps you want to work on a certain technique so that you can be better prepared and confident for your next girlfriend. Or maybe you’re experiencing a sexual road block with your partner, and your therapist recommends hands on intimacy with a professional sex surrogate.
Huh? You’ve never heard of such a thing?
Or maybe you watched L.A. Law in the ’90s, in which Douglas has a relationship with his sex surrogate, Marilyn, or have seen the charmingly dated documentary called Private Practices: The Story of a Sex Surrogate, in which Maureen Sullivan schools men on the perennial subject of intimacy and love. The humanitarian message conveyed in that ’80s film holds true to this day, even though the teased hairstyles and leg warmers have not. Thank goodness for that.
As a 36-year-old woman in the Midwest who possesses an extremely open and positive attitude towards sex, I decided I wanted to share that positive energy with others in an unconventional way. I wanted to become a sex surrogate.

thanks for the great article. i look forward to doing a podcast with you.
I am appalled that a sex therapist would not think that married couples would need or benefit from sex surrogate therapy. I would have LOVED knowing that the option was out there when I was first married ten years ago. My husband and I were both virgins and had no clue. I was having physical difficulty having sex with my husband, which it took *eight years* for anyone to figure out was due to my history of sexual and physical abuse. By the time the physical issues were worked out, I had spent so much time thinking that everything was my fault that I no longer felt comfortable talking about sex, whether it was something I enjoyed, something I felt uncomfortable with, or something that downright hurt.
I applaud you for taking on the challenge of becoming a sex surrogate, and I hope that you are able to help so many people.... whether they are single, in a relationship, or long married.
great article! looking forward to future articles, the series to continue! please write more!
I did not know that sex surrogates even existed. I think it's a brilliant idea and a profession that I would seek if I had the right tools. As you pointed out, so many people need help overcoming sexual issues and I think you would accomplish more than just a hands-off therapist or psychiatrist.
This was strangely sweet to read. Thanks for the article
I think thaat if a man in a committed couple seeks a sexual surrogate, the woman should be involved. Otherwise, it is prostitution.
