Talk about the worst case of the flu one could ever get, ever—Dutch doctors have speculated as to the cause of a mystery illness that occurs when men come down with flu symptoms directly after sex. The illness is called post orgasmic illness syndrome, or POIS, and it may occur because some men are allergic to their own semen. Horrors!

According to Reuters, post orgasmic illness syndrome has been documented in medical journals since 2002, so we’re wondering why in the world we’re only hearing about it now? Maybe doctors like to keep such things on the down low before they have an idea as to what’s going on, to avoid panic in the streets. But now, a professor of sexual psychopharmacology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, Marcel Waldinger, has published data in the Journal of Sexual Medicine that suggests hyposensitization therapy might be able to cure this unfortunate segment of the populous of their semen allergy.

“These results are a very important breakthrough in the research of this syndrome,” Waldinger told Reuters. The data also “contradict the idea that the complaints have a psychological cause.” Oh, good. We thought our men were just trying to avoid pillow talk.
