How old were you when you began masturbating? Wait. Don't answer that. We don't want to know. But keep your response in mind when you read this next story.
Jennifer Swedeoson, of Oak Harbor, Washington, is pissed. Her 10-year-old, Kaleigh brought home a “graphic” sexual education book from her school.
It's called What's the Big Secret? Talking about Sex with Girls and Boys, and it talks about much more than just sex. The back of the book has questions like “Is sex a dirty word?” and “How do you tell the difference between boys and girls?” And Swedeoson says it's not the book she has a problem with. It's the fact that her daughter read it before Swedeoson could screen it.
“This is one of the first ones that definitely caught my eye, talking about masturbation. When you are ten years old what do you need to read that for? I'm not so upset about the book itself. I think they should be sending home permission slips, making sure parents are aware that the book is there,” Swedeoson told Q13Fox. (Warning: Q13Fox is one of those news stations that needs to hire a new editor. Preferably one who passed the second grade. English majors click at own risk.)
We gotta give her that. While sometimes parents have “The Talk” thrust upon them by early bloomers, if that's not the case, they should really have a say in when their kids learn about the birds and the bees. Shouldn't they?

Aw, that poor woman. Kids shouldn't learn about sex until they're well into their teens! It's not like 11 and 12-year-olds are getting pregnant. OH, WAIT.
When kids are becoming sexually curious earlier and earlier, adults have a responsibility to get in ahead of that and teach them about it to keep them from making awful mistakes. Like winding up pregnant or getting someone else pregnant at 12 years old. Do that many parents really not realise that a little sex ed can actually keep a child from being molested (or catch it early), too?
Why should schools need permission slips to teach children the facts?
She should have had that talk with her child long before she was able to read it on her own and this would have never been a problem. That poor girl is probably going to think masturbation is a bad thing for years.
I think the problem now days is that there are too many prudish parents who need to get their heads out of their asses.
WTH ... Mother was Pissed cause she didn't think that her little angle needed to be learning about this stuff, when all over the country 10 yr olds and younger and engaging in sex, or acts of sex! Unbelievable to think that she then believes that she should have been told / warned that the book was in the schools library. Hate to say but Hear Hear to the 10 yr old girl that was willing to go looking for real information on sex instead of the run of the mill, she said they said ect.... ! If anything the mother should be embarrassed that she didn't realize that her own daughter was curious about sex. Another example of a parent not willing to own up to their own misdoings.
