It was like a scene out of a slasher film: bloody, heinous and entirely fake.
The killing of Iranhildes Agular Arajo body was staged—with the help two bottles of ketchup—for the benefit of a woman who had put a hit out on her. Metro UK reports that Maria Nilza Simoes believed that Arajo was having an affair with her (Simoes’) husband and wanted Arajo out of the way. She hired Carlos Roberto de Jesus to kill her rival, paying him the equivalent of about $500 U.S. to do the deed in a small town in eastern Brazil.
But then something happened which, if it was in a movie script, you’d wince: the hit man fell in love at first sight with his target. He couldn’t commit the crime and confessed all to the intended victim. The two staged her bloody demise to fool Simoes … and it worked, until she saw them kissing a few days later. This genius then told the police de Jesus stole $1k from her and now all three of them are facing charges.
Just one small point: a hit man comes to you and tells you he was supposed to kill you but fell in love with you and couldn’t bump you off. What are you going to say? “Thaaaanks, but … I’m just not that into you”? Maybe it’s cynical, but we’re wondering how long this will last.
