You know that period of post-wedding ennui many couples experience? Maybe the answer is to just keep getting married. Again and again and again.
That’s what Lauren and David Blair from Henderson, Tenn., did. In fact, they exchanged wedding vows— to each other— 99 times since their first wedding in 1984. All these weddings, each at a different location, have landed them in the Guinness World Record book under “Most Marriage Vow Renewals by the Same Couple.”
The Blairs first met in 1982, fell for each other immediately. The Huffington Post reports that David proposed within three months. (The story says 99 vow renewals; the headline and photo caption say 100, which we're guessing is just a little premature, but not much.) Ironically, Lauren turned David down the first time. They eventually said “I do” for the first time in 1984.
But now that she’s said yes they just couldn’t seem to stop at one (most of us are like that, too, but with stuff like cocktails and episodes of “House”).
“We knew we were meant for each other and wanted to continually share that vow experience. I love to look into David's eyes as he is repeating his vows. I know that this man will love me until the day I die,” Lauren said.
We can’t help but wonder though ... if the Blairs have been blissful for 27 years, maybe they’ve found the secret to a happy marriage. Maybe if you’re always getting married you don’t have time to actually feel married. It’d be kinda hard to let it sink in when you’ve always got a bouquet to collect and a new venue to book. Just sayin’.
