Should porn stars have to wear condoms on set? It's often a heated debate. Both sides feel they're equally correct. And the lawmakers of Los Angeles are done pussyfooting around.
On Side A, you've got people who say they're completely turned off by the use of condoms in porn, or “risk aware” folks who are insanely turned on by images of bareback sex. They don't really take into account the porn stars' health. They just want their onscreen unwrapped penises.
On Side B are people who think that since so many people get their sex education from porn, it's only logical that exhibits of safe sex in porn will result in people having safe sex more often in real life! Besides, it'll protect the porn stars and their partners, which is the real issue at hand.
“We can’t keep our heads in the sand any longer,” City Councilman Bill Rosendahl says. “These people should be using condoms. Period.”
LA's legislative branch has voted unanimously to draft a law that mandates the use of condoms in all pornography shot in Los Angeles. These will be the first regulations put in place for the mostly self-governed industry. And all we have to say is, “It's about time someone did.”
