Parents of kids in an Astoria, N.Y. elementary school are finding out their kids are smart enough to bypass the school district's Internet filtering software. The hard way.
It seems a bunch of third graders sat down at a computer in their classroom, typed in “hot girls,” and got an eyeful. Parents are not happy. And who can blame them? Accidents like that are supposed to happen at home, not at school!
PS 85 Principal Ann Gordon-Chang told reporters, “It wasn't porn. The kids typed in 'hot girls' and pictures came up. When we found out, the children weren't allowed to go into the computers. It was dealt with immediately, parents were contacted.”
The students were given in-school suspensions for using the school's computers to surf porn, and the school district says they've installed new, improved filters on all school computers since the incident.
PS 85 parents seem okay with how this situation was handled. But we're still trying to figure out what kind of programmer wouldn't think to filter out results on a search for “hot girls.”
