Virtual sex? Not on our platform, says Microsoft.

The hearts of teenage boys, and probably not a few fully grown men, all over the world sunk this weekend, when Microsoft released a response to ThriXXX's announcement of a 3D sex game for the Kinect platform. Citing its overall family friendly atmosphere, Microsoft smacked down the possibility of ever approving this type of use for its product.

"This isn't the first example of a technology being used in ways not intended by its manufacturer, and it won't be the last. Microsoft did not authorize or license its technology for this use and will take appropriate action against violations of its intellectual property. Xbox is a family friendly games and entertainment console and does not allow Adults Only (AO) content to be certified for use on its platform, and would not condone this type of game for Kinect." the statement said.

Though this reporter would hardly call games like Halo and Call of Duty "family friendly," this comes as no surprise from a company that banned a man from playing on their servers in 2008 because he used "RichardGaywood" (his legal name) as his user name. However, it does mean ThriXXX will have to find another way to make use of Kinect technology if it wants to continue to explore its sex game.
