Americans share everything on social media sites these days. Well almost everything. Two things they don’t like to share are information about their sex lives and about how much money they earn, according to a new survey.
A Harris online poll of 2,118 adults showed that slightly more than three out of four participate in a social network site. (For practical purposes, let's say we're mostly talking about Facebook here.) Somewhere between 55 and 70 percent of people did not mind sharing non-personal information, but they were more guarded about their children's activities and their household purchases. And just two percent said they were comfortable sharing information about their sex life or their salary details.
So we, of course, have to stop and do the math. What do we mean by 2 percent? Sounds like hardly anybody, right?
There are about 228 million adults in the U.S. If three-quarters of them are social networkers, that gives us … 168.5 million. Two percent of those share details about their sex lives? (Click, click, click.) And we arrive at a total of 3.37 million Americans who are okay with talking about their sex lives on Facebook.
Sounds about right to us.
