A study on self esteem and communication and how they relate to sex was recently released that says sex is more enjoyable to those who communicate openly with their partners and are able to understand their partners' emotions.
Between 2001 and 2002, 3200 students between the ages of 18 and 26 were asked questions to gauge their autonomy, self-esteem, empathy, sexual health and satisfaction. Researchers analyzed this data recently only to come up with information those of us involved in promoting a sex-positive culture already knew.
More men surveyed enjoy giving oral sex than women. More men report having orgasms from every sexual encounter than women, coming in at a whopping 87 percent of the fellas surveyed. Only 47 percent of the women said they achieve orgasm with every encounter, a fact feminists use against the men of the world. But this reporter can attest to the fact that there's more to cumming than your partner making an effort to get you there, and this study seems to agree.
"Our hypothesis is that empathetic individuals are more responsive to a partner’s needs, and thus initiate a positive feedback cycle," said Galinsky. "These developmental assets may be more important to young women’s sexual pleasure since they help them break down impediments to sexual communication and exploration."
The researchers found that self-esteem, autonomy and empathy have a huge affect on a woman's sexual satisfaction, meaning that women must feel good about themselves and their partners to achieve orgasm. Men, on the other hand, only need to know their partner is enjoying it, says the study.
We've just got one thing to say. Duh?
