We’d love to be able to use this story as a sure sign that love is out there for you even when you’re old enough to owe Moses a quarter, but not everybody is an interstellar hotshot like Buzz Aldrin, so we’re not sure. Kinda cool that the second man on the moon has found love again at 81; kinda sucks that his 23-year marriage may be ending in a messy divorce.
The New York Post reports that Aldrin met the new woman, Michelle Scullion, who is 30 years his junior at age 51, at a book signing in 2009. He was promoting his book “Magnificent Desolation.” She was an event marketing exec at Borders in Los Angeles. In June, Aldrin filed for divorce from his wife Lois Driggs Cannon, who said “He’s 81 and having kind of a midlife crisis in old age ... I still think Buzz is the most wonderful man in the world, and I still love him.”
Aldrin and Scullion were seen “making out like teenagers,” on an Acela train last weekend. Cannon says she doesn’t blame Buzz for the whole shebang but calls Scullion a “predator.”
We feel for ya, Lois. You know, if Scullion and the other marketing types had marketed Borders as well as she must have marketed herself, there might still be a Borders. Maybe. Just sayin’.
