Ashton Kutcher is not at all happy with The Village Voice. He ripped them a new one, by way of his favorite online tool: Twitter.
Yes, the star of The Butterfly Effect is protecting women everywhere from sexual slavery facilitated by ... an alternative newsweekly. It seems last year a 15-year-old girl claimed she was sold for the purpose of prostitution in a personal ad on backpage.com, which has been under fire for quite some time for their prostitution ads and the alleged human trafficking that goes on behind the scenes. The girl has sued the owner of backpage.com, Village Voice Media, saying they aided and abetted her attacker by failing to investigate the ads placed on Backpage.
Kutcher started with, "hey @villagevoice hows the lawsuit from the 15 year old victim who alleges you helped enslave them going?" and then moved on to questioning the Voice about its profit on the backs of sex workers and then suggested the media company keep earning money selling women and leave saving them to the people who "give a f**k". His censorship, not ours. Cause, you know, inserting asterisks makes it better.
The Voice didn’t take Kutcher's insults lightly. They've been snarking right back, and even published a story defending themselves. Sort of. However, we're a little disappointed with their tone. It's almost like they're saying Kutcher and Moore should find another cause simply because the number of arrests for child prostitution are immensely lower than the statistics Kutcher and Moore have come up with in their research.
