Rape, abuse, and sexual assault are crimes that overwhelmingly target women, so I will be speaking primarily about women who have survived these things, and from my own experiences as a woman who has been assaulted. Through this series of articles, I hope to provide survivors and their supporters with resources, wisdom, and understanding, using myself as an example.

Stalkers, is a dangerous and frightening word. Instantly one pictures a man or woman in their mid-twenties to thirties, standing outside in the bushes late at night. In this picture the stalker is usually unkempt in appearance, with baggy clothes, and unwashed hair. They have some secret creepy shrine of their victims and a dangerous obsession. The frightening truth is that almost anyone you meet can become your stalker. At twenty-four, I learned this the hard way.

Last week, Trent Mays and Ma’Lik Richmond were sentenced for the rape of 16-year-old “Jane Doe” at an alcohol-fueled party in Steubenville, Ohio. In the aftermath of this horrific crime, pundits are calling on the country to “teach men not to rape” to prevent a repeat of this obscenity – but that message is utterly ridiculous.

Growing up, I was warned by many folks that there are situations we put ourselves in that can get us raped. In a country that has fought so long for equal rights, it seems to me that a key area has been disregarded: father's rights to an unborn child. No man can legally force a woman to abort her baby, so why should a woman be able to abort a baby that has a parent who wants to raise it?
-

Many people bring up the idea of requesting a father's signature before a woman can get an abortion. These people do not think of the consequences of such actions. These measures are not only undue burdens, illegal under Roe v. Wade, but also horribly oppressive measures that would force women to give birth against their will.
