We put together a crew with:
- the friend of mine as the captain because it was her idea
- me as the quarter master/mistress because it's the second in command, the disciplinarian and I'm the sadist of the group
- my husband as the gunner because of his love of fire and he gets to play a bit with it
- the captain's boyfriend as the bosun
- my boyfriend as the screw up navigator because he does want me to flog him
- my other boyfriend as the cabin boy because it was one of his wet dreams to be that on a pirate crew
We also have a cook, surgeon, master rigger, deck hands and powder monkeys. Almost a full crew.
Our captain made the decision that we would do more than just the Disney-like pirates that are trendy right now. We do fantasy, historical, kid friendly, ghost, airship/steampunk and full blown kink/bdsm and other adult entertainment pirates. Well, there is a poly group as part of it that as done more than a bit of porn and we are all kinksters in some way or another.
Yep, just like a pirate crew.
At our first meeting there was a major discussion about a mission for us. A core to the group. Why we are even doing this. Someone suggested that we raise money for charities that we believe in. We decided to work for groups that help kids, help with breast cancer research and animal welfare. We have picked out out the ones we work for.
When we do shows we let people know what percentages go to the charities from sales and our take from the gig. We just need to cover our costs and the rest goes to the charity.
Most of us want to help out with these causes but we don't have the money to do so. So we decided this would be the best way to give and have some raucous fun at the same time.
One of our troupe is going to be doing The3Day this year in San Francisco. We are working on a few events to help her raise the money to meet her goal to donate. I had planned to do this walk myself, and so have a few of the other pirates, but we all felt that if we throw in behind one pirate we can help her meet her goal to actually do this. So there will be one pirate doing the sixty miles dressed in pink, and a lot of them on the side lines, all in pink with pink toy swords, cheering her on.
We have also thrown a few parties for a very small charity group that goes into impoverished parts of the world and helps kids learn to take care of themselves and to help them with their education. They are always fun parties with a lot of silliness and some drinking going on. Hell, it's pirates with access to a lot of rum and not grog. We have even had the president of the charity show up at the events some times. We may even be able to get him to join up when he's not working on his cause and it will also help him cross promote with us.
But this is still a new group and is evolving everyday. We are always coming up with new things to do and new groups that we want to help out. Should be fun to see how this will grow.
