"Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."
In reflecting upon Halloween, it’s strange that we, as adults, often think of it as a “sexy” holiday filled with revealing and risqué costumes, considering its origins are associated with a holiday for honoring the dead. I can’t say for certain how the sexy maid became a staple at Halloween parties (I wore my first maid outfit in 5th or 6th grade), but I understand the draw of it, and must say that I’m glad it’s happened.
As adults, we all have images to uphold in our daily lives; at work, at our children’s schools, at Girl Scout meetings, and Weight Watchers. Even among our friends and family there are expectations as to who and what we are and how we represent ourselves. When taking this into perspective, it becomes easy to understand why many adults gravitate towards the appeal of a sexy Halloween. It gives us the opportunity to express a part of ourselves we are forced to keep hidden behind closed doors the other 364 days a year. For this one day, we can be whatever it is we want to be and flaunt ourselves all over town as whoever we want to be. And the best part is nothing will be said and nobody will think any worse of us come Monday morning, as we walk into the office.
Halloween allows us to embrace our sexy side and live out whatever deep, perhaps even dark fantasy we have in the process. It may be a naughty school girl who gets spanked with a ruler, a sexy cop with a pair of handcuffs, or even a naughty nurse that needs to give you a complete physical, on Halloween we can become our fantasy, live it out, and give in to our wild side. If you've always wanted to be a knight in shining armor, or thought you would make a sexy fireman, Halloween provides you with the opportunity.
Some may scoff; after all, it’s only a costume designed for a children's holiday, but I will disagree. To the outside world, it may only appear to be a simple play outfit, but an outfit allows you to personify that role, if even only for that night. Imagine that you tend to be timid, rarely speak out and are passive with your lover in bed, but come Halloween, you dress up as a Domme Mistress, with leather clad breasts and a whip in your hand. You suddenly have the courage to take what you want and demand your lover’s obedience. It may be play, just "pretend," only you acting the part of your character, but sometimes something as simple as an outfit or a prop allows us to not only fit the role, but personify the costume.
So when October 31st rolls around, welcome Halloween with open arms and give in to the temptation to become something sexy and transform into someone else. And when you put on that costume, take the risk and explore something new, do something you would never normally do. You never know what tricks and treats you may find!
