For many adults, real life is the same thing every day. Wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, and go to bed. And then do it all again the next day. Halloween is a fun way for adults to get out of their normal routine and let loose. Too many adults now focus so much on work and bills and all the little stresses of everyday life, never taking the time to slow down, enjoy themselves, and explore their imagination. It is a way for the ordinary person to dress up and be something that they can’t be every day. Halloween is a day that inspires confidence and evokes a feeling of magic.
While yes, costumes have gotten sexier, I don’t think that it is something we should worry about. I feel it’s pretty obvious what costume is appropriate to wear out in public and what is not. Sexy costumes can be toned down for trick or treating with the kids, or kicked into high gear for an adult costume party. I think it’s our personal responsibility to be appropriate and know when it is okay to be sexier. Not everyone has that sense, but I think a majority of the public does. I think that to say Halloween is too sexy is too big of a generalization. There may be some people who make Halloween to sexy for my opinion, but in general it’s about using common sense and being responsible.
Wearing a sexy costume can definitely empower a woman to feel strong and confident. From my personal experience, how I am dressed has a huge impact on how I am feeling. To be able to dress up as anything or anyone I want to be for a night is a great feeling. I struggle with anxiety issues and it is a night that I try to let loose and have fun. For one night I can be anyone I want to be. It’s amazing the power a costume can hold.
Halloween is a holiday full of spook and wonder and fun. Everyone deserves to have one day of the year to not be themselves and not be judged.
