(This one is for the guys out there. Sorry ladies, I can't give your perspective)
We all know that viewing pornography is illegal. Eden has a disclaimer at the bottom right of every page stating that 18 (21 in some states) is the legal age to view porn. BUT WHY???? As a 21 year old male in the US, hell yes I look up porn. I think anyone who says they don't is either LYING, or some kind of SERIOUS religious devotee.
I remember being in middle and high school, and my body was changing. I was REALLY interested in girls. As soon as Sex Ed made me understand WHY, I began following that interest. But no girls were up for sex that young (which is a good thing). Our bodies are still wired into the past when most people died by diseases before turning 30, and an 11 year old was able to be a "man." But our brains are now set for the 21st century. When a boy that young gets an erection, he is going to masturbate. There is no way to deny it. Masturbation and wet dreams are the only sexual activity their bodies will get. But the body NEEDS to fulfill those urges. It's occasionally painful to let an erection go without tending to it.
Why then is looking at porn illegal for those boys? The only logical idea I can come up with is that it prevents them from getting into, and pursuing, the more... interesting sides to sex (I'm referring to the kinkier, "crazier" BDSM, etc. side) with anyone their age. But this law makes it seem to the boys that it is WRONG to have sexual desire. We, as a society, then turn and hit them with a paradox like a ton of bricks. So much of our advertisement and media use sex to get attention. It's illegal to look at naked women, but not women in lingerie selling alcohol or cigarettes?
I personally remember using this GREAT thing: THE INTERNET! I was able to look up whatever I wanted in Google Images, as long as I remembered to clear my browser history. I also found my dad's Playboy stash. I was the happiest 14 year old that day (His collection went back to October the year I was born, so I actually learned quite a lot reading the articles as well as jerking off to the pictures). But I was in SO MUCH trouble when I got caught. All 5 times I got caught. My parents figured that yelling and a grounding would stop me. That's totally going to work...
I am asking everyone to please consider the plight of young boys. Don't make it a terrible thing on their conscience! TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN! If you explain to adolescents that consenting people have sex, and that they should always use protection, etc. they're more likely to not be incredibly confused, and also live healthier lives because of it. If you don't want them going crazy with the pornography they look up, buy them a Playboy subscription. It's hands down the classiest porn out there, and gives them something to outlet with.
