"It's the Viagra problem for guys in their 20's. Ten to twelve years looking at porn on the internet and masturbating to it, so when they are getting married, they are dysfunctional sexually because their brain maps are changed. They enjoy what they've been doing for 10 to 12 years. Normal sex is not something that gets them excited."
The gay community can rest easy, for now, as the GOP decides that porn is the new threat to traditional marriage. Mitt Romney has accepted over $6,000 in campaign contributions from Friend Finder Networks Inc., (which owns Penthouse, Bondage.com, BDSM.com, and more) and its CEO and chairman. But that isn’t stopping him from attempting to, in essence, shut the porn industry down.
Apparently, Romney and the GOP are under the impression that watching porn leads to broken marriages, and addiction in children and adults. You know that saying ‘Once you watch porn, you never go back?’ Yeah...neither do I. But Trueman claims that if you want to have a good marriage, you can’t watch or masturbate to porn. If you do, it will completely re-map your brain, and you will no longer be aroused by normal sex because you’ve been training yourself to get off to porn. Now, maybe it’s just me, but I’m capable of being turned on by more than one thing, and I watched PLENTY of porn in my day.
The law started as an attack on child pornography, but has now been expanded to include all pornography. Enforcing that could cause huge problems for the porn industry. The word ‘obscene’ was originally intended to separate the more hardcore porn (rape, incest, scat, group sex, etc.) from the softcore stuff, but as Trueman says, “Unless it’s just waist-up nudity of women’s breasts, it probably can be found obscene somewhere in the country.”
In the 80’s and early 90’s, there were a string of porn prosecutions, but after Bill Clinton got into office, they died down (imagine that...). When George W. Bush got into office there was talk about bringing the issue back to light, but after 9/11 happened, they decided that it wouldn’t look good to be focusing on such a petty issue. Now, it’s hidden under the cover of protecting kids from porn exposure, which Romney intends to do by having a block on every new computer sold in the U.S., so that parents just have to click the mouse to block anything obscene while the kids are on the net. But isn’t that what parental supervision is for? Or do we need government programs for that now? And what about the age-old rite of passage when you start stealing your pop’s Hustler magazines and stashing them under your mattress?
By no means am I advocating exposing children to pornographic material. My point is that there are so many other things in this country that these people could be worried about, but here they are trying to slip porn elimination into a bill about shielding children from ‘smut’. And to play it all off as yet another thing that is ruining the sanctity of marriage? Come on! That is about as ridiculous as gay people not being able to get married.
The way I see it, there is only one way to prevent this. The loophole I mentioned earlier, about determining what is ‘obscene’ is the deciding factor in what gets taken down. We all need to do our part to promote sex positive environments like Edenfantasys. Educating the ‘vanilla’ world on sex, and bringing alternative sex topics to the mainstream will make it so that there is less that seems obscene. The sanctity of marriage can be preserved by not f*cking with our rights, and sexual choices, and letting love and sex be as individual as the people that encompass it.
