Do you ever experience pain during sexual penetration? Have you ever thought about why you feel that pain? Well there is a name for painful intercourse. It's called Dyspareunia.

Is this what is causing me pain when I have intercourse?

Not necessarily, but it could be one of the many reasons you experience pain during intercourse. Dyspareunia can be caused by many things and one of the reasons in women is muscle spasms. Abnormal conditions in your genitals such as a yeast infection, urinary tract infection and an ulcer in your vaginal wall can also be reasons why you are experiencing pain.

The most common causes of Dyspareunia are: A diaphragm that does not fit properly, Endometriosis, genital irritation from soaps, detergents, douches, or feminine hygiene products, hemorrhoids, herpes sores, genital warts, or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), Intercourse too soon after surgery or childbirth, menopause, ovarian cysts, Inflammation of the prostate, a diaphragm that does not fit properly, past sexual abuse or rape, vaginal dryness and Vaginismus. Seeing a doctor to diagnose if you have any condition, and to ask why you experience pain, is important because it is the first step to fixing the condition.
