"He turned down a blow job from his ex-girlfriend...mid-blowjob. You know how hard that is for a man? It's called blue balls. He's like Gandhi! But better - he likes puppets!"
Blue Balls Defined
So what exactly is the condition known as blue balls?
Blue Balls, medically referred to as Vasocongestion or Epididymal Hypertension, is the build up of fluid in the vascular tissues of the male genitals due to sexual arousal. This fluid build up can cause testicular pain or a dull ache of the prostate. Not all men will ever experience the condition, so it is understandable that some may not believe in its existence at all.
In my search through the internet to find more information on Epididymal Hypertension, there was very little information other than the article on Wikipedia linked in the previous paragraph. It appears that Epididymal Hypertension is a term used just to differentiate from Vasocongestion in general, which can be used to describe fluid build up in any vascular tissue in the body.
In women, Vasocongestion is responsible for the hardening of the clitoris and vaginal lubrication. Women can actually experience "pelvic heaviness" just as a man can experience blue balls due to sexual arousal. Post-menopausal women experience a decrease in Vasocongestion that can lead to decreased natural wetness, which can require personal lubricant to make sex enjoyable again.
Treatments for blue balls include "sexual release," and it is noted in the medical journal Pediatrics by Chalett and Nerenberg that straining to move a heavy object can possibly also help alleviate pain. In women, the feeling can also become painful, requiring orgasm to lessen the pain.
Blue balls has affected me personally, and can/will affect a large group of people at some point in their lives. It is by no means a permanent condition and can be "treated" as simply as getting oneself off!
As usual, remember: Sex isn't nasty, and what happens between two consenting adults is their business and their business alone. Never be afraid to ask for what makes you happy!
That being said: Men, don't use this as a card to try to get further when a woman shuts you down before you get yours.
