Chlorhexidine is a hospital grade antimicrobial; it kills bugs! In the hospital, surgeons use it every day to wash before they perform your surgeries. Patients are sent home to bathe with it the night before they have a surgery. When the nurse starts an IV or draws blood from you, she preps your skin with it. Rubbing alcohol doesn’t cut it in the hospitals any longer. When you go to the dentist, he may have you rinse your mouth out with Chlorhexidine gluconate. This is a different formulation of the same antimicrobial.
One thing that is really great about Chlorhexidine is that not only does it kill the bugs that are on your hands, but also toys or wherever. It prevents bugs from hanging out for up to 6 hours. I searched multiple medical studies and they all concurred with that fact. The prevention factor is a really big thing when you are dealing with hospital acquired infections. The hospital’s lose money when patients get infected while they are hospitalized. Medicare won’t pay the bill. So hospitals are using the best to prevent infections to patients.
Chlorhexidine kills the bugs that cause Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant enterococcus (VRE). These are really big terms for infections that don’t get wiped out by normal courses of antibiotics. They are the super bugs that we hear about in the news. They can be life threatening for a person with HIV, cancer or anyone who is immunosuppressed. You know when you have heard in the news about E. coli and our food being contaminated? I have found medical research that shows that Chlorhexidine can kill the E. Coli bug.
What is most important to us is that Chlorhexidine also kills the bugs that cause Chlamydia and Trichomonas. Chlorhexidine is used for treatment of those sexually transmitted diseases as a topical medication. Chlorhexidine has also been noted to kill yeast and fungus topically.
Chlorhexidine is non-toxic, even when used internally. Some persons may have allergic reactions to other compounds that the Chlorhexidine is combined with. It comes in many different forms and concentrations. Some concentrations are used as medical treatment, some for cleaning of medical supplies, some for preparation for surgeries, some just for hand washing by medical professionals.
This article is not intended to suggest any medical treatment. If you think that you have any infections or concerns, please see your physician. This is just an overview to give you a background about Chlorhexidine, what it is and what it is used for.
So why is this important to me?
The Eden wipes that Eden sells, and many of the popular and expensive toy sprays and cleaners, contain this hospital grade antimicrobial. Not only does it clean up the messes, it kills the bugs and it prevents the bugs from growing for a period of time. This is great to keep me healthy! I am very impressed by this. This flows with the idea that Eden is the “Sex shop that I Trust."
