"A little learning is a dangerous thing."
A Proper Education
With the advent of the World Wide Web, many kinksters and fetishists have been offering a variety of services online to those who are new to the BDSM scene or simply want to brush up on their skills. One trend that has been very helpful, for submissives and Dominants alike, are the schools that have been popping up all over the internet to train people in the basics of BDSM, including classes on slavery, positions, toys, aftercare, hypnotism and more.
Just like with any other online service, not all BDSM training courses are the same. The schools vary in price, from free to over $100. Some only have one or two instructors, while others have a league of extraordinarily kinky people. Some have manuals students can download or order, others simply send out courses via e-mail. Because of all the variances, it is difficult to compare the courses, but some are gaining better reviews.
Kink Academy
One school that seems to be gaining the most popularity is Kink Academy. This online school states “You’ve grown up, and so should your sex ed!”
The reason Kink Academy is so popular is most likely due to the continual addition of instructors and videos on a large variety of topics, including hypnotism, rope work, polyamory and legal concerns. The instructors are very popular among the BDSM community, and some, like Jay Wiseman and Lee Harrington, are published authors.
The tuition for Kink Academy varies from $15 recurring every thirty days, to $100 non-recurring for a year. There are some free video lessons for those who are unsure whether they want to join. Those who do join, not only have access to videos by fantastic instructors and classes, but also maintain a profile on Kink Academy, which can be great for training resumes when seeking a partner or partners.
The Submissive Guide
LunaKM of The Submissive Guide offers a course on how submissives or slaves can better serve through inner reflection and contemplation.
The classes include .PDF files that are like mini e-books written by LunaKM. "Wants and Needs" and "20 Things You Can Do to Improve Your Submission Today" are helpful articles that any submissive can use no matter where they are at in their service; whether he or she is just beginning or they are a veteran slave.
The courses are sent by e-mail after signing up, like a newsletter. There are seven in total, one sent each day. However, there is no deadline for the course to be finished and no need to submit any homework. In the end, LunaKM only asks that each student let her know if the class has helped, and, if they would like, to send her the cover letter of their Training Resume, which allows her a glimpse of the submissive’s growth and experience in the class.
The best part of the class is that they’re free. LunaKM does offer e-books and other files for purchase on her website to help keep the site, forum and classes free for those interested.
BDSM Training Academy
Mistress Sophia and Master Bishop of the BDSM Training Academy have put together a collection of classes for Dominants and submissives alike and have categorized them by D/s role as well as gender. The courses are offered not only on BDSM Training Academy, but also on Discover BDSM Slave Training.
These classes are sent by e-mail and follow up e-mails are also available for those who stay subscribed. Newsletters on orgasm control, proper flogging and tips on role playing are sent out sporadically after training is completed.
Like the Submissive Guide, BDSM Training offers their seven day courses for free. Mistress Sophia and Master Bishop keep the Academy going by offering longer and more in-depth courses on CD for purchase on their website.
Unlike the Submissive Guide and Kink Academy, BDSM Training Academy does not offer a community link or forum for students to ask questions and share their experiences.
Homework
There are many other online schools for BDSM and various fetishes online. The above is merely a sampler of what is available.
Now that school is in session, it’s time to pull out those kinky books and the plaid skirt and for subs and Doms alike to get to work on their P’s and Q’s – that’s Protocol and Queening, right?
