Growing up you don't really know anything let alone what is normal and what isn't normal when it comes to your vaginal area. I didn't notice mind was any different until I was about 14 years old, and that was because that was the first time I had ever seen an adult video. The first thing I noticed was that her clit looked VERY much different than mine did. I never said anything to anyone, I just automatically thought my vagina was weird because all the women had the same looking clit and I thought it was just me.
I felt ashamed and did not want to look at myself. I was freaked when it came to having sex for the first time. I was about 18 years old at this time and was scared to what my partner was going to think about it. I always complained about how much I hated it and for the longest I didn't even let my boyfriend look down there. If he tried to look down there I just about freaked out. I was scared he would see it and think I was some freak of nature.
Because I didn't have sex till I was about 18, I had never really visited a doctor for any sexual reasons. I had to get checked out before my doctor at that time would refill my birth control prescription. When I lay on the table and opened my legs, she actually gave me an odd look. I asked her if it was normal for my clit to be a little larger than those cute little button types. She looked at me and acted like she had to think about it for a minute. She then said, yes, it's normal. At that time I thought she was saying that to make me not feel weird.
I ended up leaving her as a doctor and found another, and she changed the whole way I thought about my clit. She actually made me love it. She taught me so many different things and showed me how everyone’s clit can be very different. I learned about why are some reasons your clit can be bigger than the next and everything that goes with it.
This is what I learned:
The average crosswise width of the clitoral glans to be 3.4 mm (0.13 inches) with a range of 2.4 to 4.4 mm (0.09 - 0.17 inches) and the lengthwise width was 5.1 mm (0.20 inches) with a range of 3.7 to 6.5 mm (0.15 - 0.26 inches). That is much smaller than the eraser on the top of a pencil.
Dr. Robert Latou Dickinson states in his book Atlas of Human Sex Anatomy, published in 1949, that "normal" clitorises had a crosswise width of 3 to 4 mm. (0.12 - 0.16 inches) and a lengthwise width of 4 to 5 mm (0.16 - 0.20 inches). Based on one hundred examinations, he found five percent of women had a clitoral glans that measured 0 to 2.5 mm (0 - 0.10 inches), seventy-five percent measured between 2.5 and 6.5 mm (0.10 - 0.26 inches) and twenty percent measured between 6.5 and 15 mm (0.26 - 0.59 inches). He mentions others who had given lengthwise measurements of 5.6, 6.7, and 8.0 mm (0.22, 0.26 and 0.31 inches).
The masturbation habits of most women are not likely to affect the size of their clitoris, other than perhaps causing a slight increase in its size due to better blood circulation if they masturbate on a regular basis. The clitoris is very sensitive to androgens like testosterone. Prescription and non-prescription steroidal drugs can cause a woman's clitoris to increase in size, sometime significantly. Some clitorises are said to achieve a maximum length of about 2 1/2 inches (6.3cm). Although not every women who has a larger clit (like me) has taken some type of testosterone. What happens is that during the puberty stage some women produce a little more testosterone than others. There is NO correlation between age, height, weight, or use of oral contraceptives and clitoral size, but women who had given birth had "significantly larger measurements".
Personally I can see why some women would want a larger clit, and some go through different measures to make that happen. There is no evidence to support the claim that a bigger clitoris performs better, though a few women do have a form of penis envy. As women are learning that their clitoris is much like a small penis and it is capable of being much larger some are expressing a desire to enlarge it.
Some women do go through and try different things to increase the size of their clit using untypical methods like drawing increased amounts of blood into the clitoris with a vacuum pump or clitoral pump on a frequent basis. This can result in an increase in size as the vascular structures are slowly stretched and enlarged to accommodate the additional blood. These methods seem to work for those who want a larger clit.
I've found that almost 27% of women do wish they had a larger clit. Finding out all this information about larger clits and meeting that wonderful doctor has changed my whole outlook on my own clit. I'm currently proud of my clit and I love it. I wouldn't change it for the world. Knowing that women are willing to go through different things to achieve a larger clit and I was blessed with one, I shouldn't be ashamed of it. I always have orgasms during any sexual activity, and they are amazing. I don't have to fight with my clit to orgasm; I've had friends who said it takes them about 30-40 minutes masturbation to achieve orgasm.
What I'm trying to say is be proud of your clit! Don't hide it and feel ashamed of it. It doesn't matter of you have a small clit or one much larger. I used to be envious of women with smaller clits and I've met women who were envious of my clit. I've learned no one should be envious of anyone. You should be proud of the clit you were born with.

Awesome article on clitoris size and being proud of what you've got! Thanks for sharing it with us
Very dynamic!
Like your input on your gynecologist and how you can get so well informed from one yet mislead from the other. Good going finding one that gave you the answers you wanted, needed and with honesty!
