Poor Wisconsin state Sen. Randy Hopper (R). He's gonna be the talk of the chattering class for a while. Apparently, he sent a bunch of his constituents to one of those hotlines. You know the ones. Where the ladies have sexy voices and say all the right things, and the men remain anonymous, so long as they freely provide their credit card number. Yeah. Those lines.

The senator says, “Recently, I sent some constituents a letter providing an update on the start of the 2011-12 legislative session. Unfortunately, the letter contained a typographical mistake and incorrectly listed my toll-free number.”

We'll say. But hey, it's an honest mistake. Hopper's toll free line ended in 0, but the typist accidentally typed 9. It happens. And most times the result isn't quite so hilarious.

Trust Democrats, who amassed 23,000 signatures on a petition to recall Hopper, are on their game with this one. “Randy Hopper won't listen to his constituents and stand up to Scott Walker so apparently he is sending his constituents someplace where the chat lines are still open,” cracked state Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate.
