Nothing quite like taking your time. Jann Wenner, founder of Rolling Stone and owner of Us Weekly and Men’s Journal, left his wife to move in with gay partner and ex-Calvin Klein model Matthew Nye 16 years ago … and Jane Wenner finally filed for divorce two months ago on June 20.
So why now? According to the New York Post, some people think it may be because New York has legalized same-sex marriage, clearing the way for Jann and Matt to to make it legal, but no sure reason has yet surfaced.
The divorce is raising concerns about what will happen to Wenner’s media empire. The Post says that money from Jane’s father helped Jann establish Rolling Stone and that she’s still a substantial part of the business. In speculating on a sale, one source said, “He’s 65 now. What’ the point of keeping [the empire]?”
Jann Wenner is 65?! Like we weren’t already feeling old thinking about the days when Rolling Stone was an oversized tabloid done on newsprint. Next thing you know we’ll find out Alice Cooper’s, like, an avid golfer or something.
