Nina addresses a letter from a woman who asks about using intercourse as a means of self-preservation or protection from mental or bodily injury. Nina says to her reader and anybody who finds themselves in this situation that while this might be a short-term method of protection, anybody being abused in anyway should seek a means of escape as soon as possible. She also emphasizes the very important point that "No one has the right to hurt us physically or emotionally."
If you find yourself in an abusive situation, we strongly encourage you to seek help and a place of safety as soon as possible. One place to start is the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Please keep in mind, as Nina mentions, computer use can be monitored and is not always possible to completely clear. If you are afraid your internet and/or computer usage might be monitored, please use a safer computer, call your local hotline, and/or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224.
Got something you want to ask Nina? (Of course you do.) Drop her a line at tuesdayswithnina@gmail.com. Now, while we can’t promise that every question received will get a personal response, however, those that do will be answered frankly, entertainingly, enlighteningly and, if we know Nina, in the spirit of happy, healthy sex and a satisfied libido.

wow
the key is "or emotionally". It is not always clear cut to victims once their mind has been toyed with. The domestic violence hotline is a great source at helping to define abuse. It doesn't take name calling or physical violence to be abuse.
