It’s kind of cool that the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation League has an official airline. It’s Southwest. Which makes it kind of weird that Southwest escorted a lesbian actress off the plane after kissing her girlfriend— and evidently cussing at a flight attendant who reprimanded the couple, on the grounds that other passengers had complained.
Leisha Hailey, (Alice Pieszecki from The L Word), was on a flight with her girlfriend when they exchanged what she called “one modest kiss,” according to an Associated Press story on The New York Times’ website. Southwest says there was an excessive display of affection about which passengers complained. When asked to stop, the couple allegedly became aggressive with the flight attendant and it was the profanity, not the kiss, that got them escorted off the flight, according to the airline.
Hailey says she has audio and video of the whole shebang and is calling for a boycott of the airline based on discrimination. Southwest has also booted Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong for wearing his pants too low and director Kevin Smith because, “He didn’t properly fit in a single seat,” though ... weirdly … he was seated when they threw him off.
We’re intrigued by this kiss. Was it that lavish? Or—our guess— did a passenger just decide any same-sex kiss was not family-friendly and bitch to the staff?
In any event, be careful flying Southwest if you’re a chubby, affectionate lesbian couple sporting baggy drawers. You might end up with a refund … and one newsworthy Tweet.
