Well, we always thought cheap sex was a good thing and now there’s a study to prove it. Research by the American Psychological Association says that in the countries where sexual equality is greater and women have more opportunities to advance themselves and have fulfilling lives, people tend to have more sex. The APA study of more than 300,000 couples in 37 countries and reported on in Nerve (via Shine) is based on what they call “sexual economics.”
The theory goes like this. Men generally want sex more than women (I know ladies … I wonder about that sometimes, too, but let’s play ball to see where this is going). This means in a repressive society sex is an asset for women … possibly the only asset they’re allowed to have, making it more valuable or “expensive.” In a society where she has lots of opportunity to have other assets, like having educational and job possibilities, then sex becomes less of a commodity and “cheaper.”
“If women don't have many opportunities to make money on their own, they need the value of sex to be as high as possible ... When women don't have other opportunities, sex is the main thing she has to offer,” Nerve quotes the study author as saying.
So guys, forget the cheesy lines and the cool façade … just keep us in mind in the voting booth and support people who support the ladies. It’s the sexy thing to do.
