Recently, the ribbon was cut on the Keith Haring ASC Harlem Center, an AIDS Service Center geared toward education and support of New York families and individuals affected by HIV and AIDS. The Center will provide testing, peer education, and access to support services, in a setting that feels like “home.”
The Service Center is partnered with the Keith Haring Foundation, established in 1989 to support not-for-profit organizations that assist children, as well as organizations involved in education, research and care related to AIDS. According to Julia Gruen, Executive Director of The Keith Haring Foundation, “It was one of Keith Haring’s dreams and one of his Foundation’s goals that his activism and visual legacy benefit the HIV-AIDS community.”

Keith Haring’s art made an impact on contemporary art with his bold lines and active figures, and poignant messages of vitality and unity. His now-famous Crack is Wack mural of 1986 has become a landmark in New York City and The Pop Shop, established in 1986, still provides extensive access to Keith Haring’s art and projects. Haring died in 1990, but his art can still be seen today in the exhibitions and collections of major museums around the world.
