Possibly taking a cue from COED Magazine’s recent article “72 Sexy Reasons to Boycott Arizona,” the Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to ban official city travel to the state, in protest to the new immigration law. Calling themselves “an immigrant city,” L.A. city council members argued that the new law would lead to racial profiling and dangerous deportation practices.
In other boycotts, Glee creator Ryan Murphy called for a boycott against Newsweek, after the magazine published an article arguing that gay actors can’t play straight. Murphy stated the boycott should continue until Newsweek issues an apology for the “needlessly cruel, and mind-blowingly bigoted piece.”
Also, after racy photos of Miss USA contestants turned up on the internet, Leesa Bellesi, a South Country Christian leader, is calling for a boycott of the pageant. The photos on the pageant’s official website depict the contestants in lingerie, lounging suggestively in bed. It doesn’t help that Paula Shugart, pageant president, told USA Today that most of the contestants just want to be Victoria's Secret models, anyway—and Bellesi responded by saying "They want to be Victoria's Secret models? I thought they wanted to change the world. How did we get here?"
