To promote her latest movie, Love Ranch, Mirren posed semi-nude in a bathtub for New York magazine’s Summer Guide issue. She looks fantastic—and she’s 64.
Known for her roles in the long-running PBS series Prime Suspect, and films such as Excalibur, Caligula, and The Queen—which won her an Oscar—Mirren was once dubbed “Stratford’s very own sex queen” during her time at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
A self-professed “good girl who’d like to be a bad one,” Mirren reportedly stole a pair of Russell Brand’s underwear to keep as a souvenir of their time together working on The Tempest—and she claims she wears them now and then.
While Mirren frets: “I’m getting less notorious as I get older. People forget that I ever was,” with these sizzling photos and her celebrated penchant for getting naked, it’s unlikely anyone’s going have any trouble remembering her.
Among those icons we unlikely to forget anytime soon is Edith Shain, the nurse who was photographed being kissed by an American sailor to celebrate the end of World War II. Edith waited to identify herself as the nurse in the photo until the seventies, and the identity of the sailor is still unresolved. Edith Shain passed away at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday at the age of 91.
