On Tuesday, Hasselbeck said she believed women who turn to lesbianism later in life just can’t find a man. “All the older men are going for younger women, leaving the women with no one.” The comment was in response to findings that more and more women are “late-blooming” lesbians, experiencing a shift in their sexual orientation as they mature.
But Hasselbeck’s view was immediately challenged by fellow host Joy Behar. “Being gay is not just holding hands and walking through the tulips,” Behar said.
Obviously not, as most same-sex marriage advocates would possibly call it an uphill battle. But, recent surveys have shown increasing support for gay and lesbian unions among Californians and Catholics.
In a poll conducted by the nonprofit Public Religion Research Institute discovered that 51 percent of Californians would cast a vote to uphold gay and lesbian couples right to marry, if another Prop 8-style ballot was put out tomorrow, and only 22 percent of white Catholics and 23 percent of Latino Catholics oppose the legal recognition of same sex unions. Good news, while we’re still waiting on U.S. District Court decision on whether or not Prop 8 violates the constitution. Any day now, guys.
