When you ask the waiter what kind of nuts are in a particular dish you might not expect the answer “bull's.” It would be a reasonable answer, though if you were attending the World Testicle and Aphrodisiac Cooking Championships, held every year in Serbia. There, the best testicle cooks from around the world come together to serve you balls on a platter.
In a charming twist, dishes are being dedicated to Prince William and Kate Middleton this year, says Metro UK. Chef Ljubomir Erovic, the author of “Cooking with Balls.” Erovic thinks the dishes will help the royal couple conceive a child— balls are, of course, rich in testosterone and considered an aphrodisiac in Serbia.
A Telegraph article from 2008 about the cookbook notes that a recipe for testicle pie instructs you to "Wash testicles thoroughly for 30-45 minutes," (right - who knows where they've been?) and quotes Erovic as saying: “The tastiest testicles in my opinion probably come from bulls, stallions or ostriches, although other people have their own favorites. All testicles can be eaten—except human, of course. The best for aphrodisiac properties are sheep and stallion testicles.” Though presumably the animals get a little teste?
FYI: there's video with the Telegraph article about the book which notes: “Perhaps a couple of glasses of wine before you take your first mouthful.” Now we're talking.
One supposes, too, that if you get a hair in your dish of battered testicles, at least you know it's not the chef's.
