Eons ago on “The Young Ones,” Vyvyan once described Rick as spelling his name “with a silent P.”
Isn’t it about time we started that with Santorum? The presidential candidate said last week that women who become pregnant after being raped should accept their pregnancies as gifts from God. The Mommy Blog on SFGate describes Santorum’s interview with Piers Morgan in which the broadcaster pressed the candidate on the abortion issue, asking what if one of his daughters came to him “begging” to get an abortion after being raped. This is what he had to say:
“I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created –in the sense of rape– but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you.”
He added that rape victims “ought to make the best of a bad situation.”
Hear that? When life gives you traumatic sexual violence, make lemonade, girly!
The Mommy Blog politely calls Santorum’s remarks “illogical” but does bring up the obvious “shouldn’t that be the woman’s choice, not the government’s?” Kate Harding of The Guardian, though giving the candidate a “mote” of respect for at least being consistent, nonetheless wrote “he said becoming pregnant by a rapist is a gift from God. Out loud. With a camera on him. And he wants to be president of a country that has women in it.”

I literally wrote the book about Santorum's scenario. Expecting, by Lula Belle, is my new novel written from the perspective of a pregnant, raped, fourteen year old who can't get an abortion--and she's pissed. Check it out on Amazon.com:

I really couldn't believe that he said these statements outloud so I had to blog about it....My mind is completely blown by this. I guess I need to keep up with politics more because this is just so unbelievable to me.
Would he feel this way if it was his wife was raped and got pregnant?
And yet this imbecile in clown shoes seems genuinely mystified by his unpopularity.
