If you were a city official and found out from the TV news that there was an actual swingers’ club (gasp) up and running in your town, what would you do? Well, in Peoria, Ill., apparently you’d get right on it and try to pass a law that would eliminate this horrible threat to public morality and safety.
Club 307, reportedly located less than two blocks from Peoria Police Department, was pretty much ignored until Mayor Jim Ardis saw a news report about the local “swinging lifestyle” scene last summer. “It's so amazing that no one even knew it was here,” City Councilman Eric Turner said recently.
Now officials are worried that swingers will spread sexual disease and corrupt teenagers. The City Council will vote on a new ordinance tonight that would prohibit most of what they apparently suspect goes on inside Club 307.
As far as we can tell, Peoria swingers aren’t bothering anyone. Somehow, we’re thinking that Peoria public officials feel like they have to legislate morality, anyway.
