So, nipples are fun, right? Whether they might-or-might-not-be popping out of Nancy Grace’s dress on DWTS, whether you’re wondering why men have them (glad, but wondering) or just enjoying your own, they’re fun. That’s a given.
At least until you put 3,000 of them, formerly belonging to yaks and cows but still visibly nipple-y, on a dress and trot it out at London Fashion week, which is exactly what designer Rachel Freire did. The nipples came from hides found at tanneries. The Daily Mail reported on the shocking creation, with photographs. Many were outraged, including animal rights groups and Labour Party MP Kerry McCarthy, who called the dress “absolutely grotesque.” Freire defended her work, saying “It really makes you aware of the animal itself.”
“I create fashion using material that would otherwise end up on the scrap heap. “What I am doing is recycling. The people criticizing are clearly clueless about the amount of leather wasted on a daily basis.”
And really, after seeing this, who’s going to be as quick to order the steak?
Undeterred, Freire is getting ready to take her controversial work to Paris Fashion Week. Reporting on her career, the Mail noted an interesting metaphor she chose in describing her style: “To be called a fashion designer is odd. I am an artist in wolf's clothing.”
Oh, the collection is called Nippleocalypse. But you can use that for the Nancy Grace thing, if ya want.
