Yesterday in the trial of Warren Jeffs, the 55 year-old leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (which differs from the mainstream Mormon church) prosecutors played audio recordings of Jeffs teaching several of his “wives,” one 14 years old, how to please him sexually and thus please God. From today’s CNN story, quoting Jeffs:
“You have to know how to be sexually excited and to help each other ... and you have to be ready for the time I need your comfort … This is your mission. This is how you abide the law.”
Jurors—some of whom had their heads lowered and eyes closed as the recordings played—could also make out certain disjointed phrases, such as, “Take your clothes off. Do it right now.”
The sounds of crying followed.
“Just don't think about the pain; you're going to heaven,” the man says at one point. “The world's view of sexual relations is selfish; the celestial view is not,” he says at another.
An accompanying CNN video says that on the tapes, it sounds like sex is going on between Jeffs and the girls. Jeff is charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child and one count of bigamy, which he’ll be tried for later. There is a nearly 100 percent chance that Jeffs fathered a child with a 15-year-old girl, according to DNA evidence presented at the trial.
Maybe Jeffs will get some instruction of himself—in prison. By someone named Moose.
