NBC’s new series The Playboy Club is set in the 1950s and bills itself as “a provocative new drama about a time and place in which a visionary created an empire, and an icon changed American culture.” But it's gonna kill society, says a group called Morality in Media.
“Since the ’50s, Hugh Hefner and his Playboy Magazine have pushed a philosophy which dictated that, to the 'sophisticated man,' the female is a mere toy to be used, abused and discarded. That philosophy has inflicted unimaginable harm to our society,” says Patrick Trueman, president of Morality in Media.
Free Speech Coalition's Executive Director Diane Duke told XBIZ, "It's unfortunate that Trueman and the folks at Morality in the Media insist upon imposing their puritanical values on the rest of us. Clearly these folks haven’t taken the time to get to know any of the women they purport to be exploited. As a long time feminist, I can tell you that the women in this industry are some of the most powerful women I have ever met."
We're kinda excited to see what Hef and NBC have in store for us this fall. Let's hope MiM fails, eh? We're liking the promo videos.
