The banner and billboard feature married couples in provocative poses. “God is pro sex! It should be exciting!” reads the headline. MySexLifeSucks.org is the url. And they're part of a movement started by Pastor Heath Mooneyham in Joplin, Mo., at Ignite Church.
“We're doing a series about sex, and God's intended purpose for it,” said Mooneyham. “We're hitting things like adultery and pornography.”
Why? Because that's what's tearing American families apart, he says.
The message is that married couples should be having more sex. The reason? So they won't be tempted by sin.
“There is no way ever I would take my kids to a church with a big sign advertising sex,” Veronica Warren told ABC affiliate KODE-TV in Joplin. “People bring their kids to Sonic and their kids are going to look at that sign and say, 'Mommy what's that mean?' and, oh my God, and then that parent has to explain.”
Oh my god, indeed! “Oh no! I have to talk to my kid about the birds and bees! How dare the church thrust upon me the duty of parenting? Gosh!” Some people.
To Pastor Mooneyham, Warren said, “You got a lot of people's attention now, but you made a lot of people mad.”
“God created it and he's not freaked out by it,” Mooneyham said. “So I don't see why we should be.”
