If the homework is masturbation, we already aced the class. And we aren’t even in it.
But Karen Royce, 60, a student at Western Nevada College isn’t so at ease with such subject matter. Royce is filing a harassment claim against WNC, saying that her Human Sexuality teacher, Tom Kubistant, “required students to divulge personal details of their sex lives and assigned them to masturbate,” AZ Central reports.
Several students have contacted WNC general counsel Mark Gahn with unsolicited defenses of the popular teacher.
Among her complaints, Royce said that Kubistant assigned the class to “double their normal masturbation routine over the course of two weeks and write journals about their experiences.
“I joked, but was serious and said, ‘I don't masturbate, so zero times zero is zero!’” Royce wrote in her complaint. Kubistant, she said, “became angry and ordered the class to masturbate if they intended to pass the class.”
The college has never had such complaints before and a school representative said this is typical material for the elective course and students are warned about its sensitive nature from the outset. Kenneth Locke, from the University of Iowa, who teaches similar classes with a few differences, like letting students opt out of assignments if they are uncomfortable.
One of Kubistant’s former students said “It’s not a pervy thing,” and “He teaches you how to live as a sexual human being and not be afraid.”
