You've heard of, we're sure, the new Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) regulations that require a virtual strip search, and/or an enhanced pat-down when you venture into their lines to fly the friendly skies. Complaints and videos are popping up all over the Internet and the news. People are torn on whether or not they're constitutional, and whether or not they should be.
One Alaskan state representative has dubbed them “too intrusive.” So intrusive, in fact, that she chose a twelve-hour boat ride from Seattle to Juneau over going through with the pat-down.
On the way home from being treated for breast cancer, Rep. Sharon Cissna (D) went through a TSA body scan, and then was told that she must undergo an enhanced pat-down, or leave the airport. And what, pray tell, could prompt the TSA to feel they must subject a state rep to such scrutiny? Simply the mastectomy, nothing more.
Cissna doesn't yet appear to be interested in making a political statement. We can't help but hope someone will.
