Not to be outdone by the people in favor of marriage equality, and furious over Governor Andrew Cuomo's video, a group of protesters against marriage equality stormed the castle as well. Though Your News Now Albany's calling them “ralliers”.
The group says marriage is a “family issue” and “family is defined as one man and one woman.” They're calling it the MayDay for Marriage Rally, and the trip to the Capitol is the tail end of their tour. They say no one can decide what constitutes a marriage but God. And, of course, God says marriage is between one man and one woman.
“I think if you were to take a poll of the people of New York and ask people if they wanted to keep it the way that it is or to change it, most would vote to keep it the way it is,” a rallier named Nicole Bloodgood said.
However, recent polls taken show 56-58 percent of New Yorkers are in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage. Not a huge margin, but it’s the highest it's been since the fight for marriage equality began.
