Here's one for the scoreboard. Parents of female basketball players at Life School in Waxahachie, Texas, have rallied behind their girls' coach, 26-year-old Nikki Williams. Why? They're convinced the woman was fired because she's gay. What's worse? Because Texas doesn't have a law banning discrimination based on sexual orientation, there's absolutely nothing Williams can do about it.
The school cites “performance issues” as the reason for Williams' termination. But parents say that's a load of malarkey.
“She's always offered them the utmost respect; she's offered parents the utmost respect; she has done everything possible to get the girls to be able to have a winning season -- something they haven't experienced before,” said parent Tiniqua Smith. “I think that her being gay has nothing to do with her coaching skills. She has not tried to push this off on the kids, and I don't feel that it should be a problem.”
The school board refuses to budge. And what's worse? They've put an ex-football coach in Williams' place. -- a football coach who was removed from his position because of a grievance filed against him.
Okay, so, in Waxahachie, being unfit to coach boys does not necessarily disqualify you from being fit to coach girls. And regardless, you're still better than a lesbian coach, for sure!
Way to put your name on the map, Waxahachie.
