It’s hard to tell whether Natalie Irish would make the best girlfriend ever or the most exhausted one. On one hand, she gets tons of practice kissing—in fact, the Houston artist makes amazing portraits using lipstick as paint and her own lips as brushes. On the other hand, after making out with a canvas—and getting such cool work out of it— could you give her as much gratification as her own art, even if you could kiss back?
The Daily Mail recently did a story on Natalie that features video of her smooching an image of Marilyn Monroe to life, a process during which she really does seem like she’s pouring a whole lotta love into her work. She told the British paper that she liked to do thumbprint art in high school but never felt like it was her own. Using her lips occurred to her, she says, in the simplest of ways: The idea struck her when she was blotting her lipstick.
You know, I love my work but I don’t feel compelled to make out with the Mac Book. Thankfully Natalie has overcome that kind of prissiness.
