Out of the mouths of babes, it’s said, great intelligence can come; and one high school girl has proved that youth is no barrier to wisdom in her response to the people who didn’t like her being named homecoming king.
ABC News reported on Sunday that a lesbian couple, Rebecca Arellano and Haleigh Adams, were named homecoming king and queen, respectively, at a pep rally at Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, Calif., on Friday. The girls got an “abundance” of support from “family, friends, students and staff” at the school. They’ve had negative feedback as well … but check out the statement Arellano posted on her Facebook wall:
“For all the girls who think tradition should be continued, go back to the kitchen, stop having sex before you're married, get out of school and job system, don't have an opinion, don't own any property, give up the right to marry who you love, don't vote, and allow your husband to do whatever he pleases to you. Think about the meaning of tradition when you use it in your argument against us.”
Yowza! Who wants to bet that she’s already getting job offers as a speech writer the minute she graduates? Someone’s doing something right at Patrick Henry High School because that’s about the smartest thing we’ve heard all week. Enjoy your reign, ladies!
