In the ongoing saga of Herman Cain and the sexual harassment allegations leveled at him during his tenure as head of the National Restaurant Association, The New York Times reported yesterday that the candidate said, “We’re getting back on message, end of story.”
The Times’ Susan Saulny wrote this yesterday in Political Memo: “ ‘Don’t even go there,’ ” Cain warned reporters who clamored to ask him at least one question after the event.”
He might have forgotten that it’s the job of reporters to go there.
It might be much easier said than done for Cain to leave the story behind since his fellow Republican presidential candidates Jon M. Huntsman Jr. and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour have urged “Mr. Cain to be more forthcoming in responding to the accusations,” Sauly writes.
Since the story surfaced a week ago, Cain “has issued an avalanche of confusing and often contradictory statements, lashing out at his rivals, accusing Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign of leaking the information, and ultimately blaming the news media for covering the story.”
We're not sure exactly what America expected of a presidential candidate who named his own company THE Inc., with the “THE” standing for “The Herminator Experience.” The candidate does seem to have a few things in common with Arnold Schwarzenegger though, doesn't he?
